Opinion and Analysis (Op-Ed)
Al-Qaida in America

Published in: Western Hemisphere Policy Watch - August 11, 2007

(From the Banks of the Potomac) Acording to the Debkafiles, recent Al-Qaida related chatter about dirty bomb attack on the U.S., or other imminent attack, "speaks obliquely of the approaching attacks easing the heavy pressure America exerts on countries like Cuba and Venezuela."

According to Debkafiles "the al Qaeda communications accuse the Americans of the grave error of failing to take seriously the videotape released by the American al Qaeda spokesman Adam Gaddahn last week. “They will soon realize their mistake when American cities are hit by quality operations,” said one message. Another said the attacks would be carried out “by means of trucks loaded with radio-active material against America’s biggest city and financial nerve center.”

A third message mentioned New York, Los Angeles and Miami as targets. It drew the answer: “The attack, with Allah’s help, will cause an economic meltdown, many dead, and a financial crisis on a scale that compels the United States to pull its military forces out of many parts of the world, including Iraq, for lack of any other way of cutting down costs.”

Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez have been supporting radical Islamists since before the September 11, 2001 attacks. It is not new news. In fact, a few months before the attacks in 2001 Fidel Castro was in Iran, we believe in May, and at a speech at Tehran University said that 'he had seen the U.S. close up, it is weak. Together, Iran and Cuba will bring America to its knees." How is that for a psy-op or coded message to the radicals?

Meanwhile, Chavez has been facilitating Iran's penetration into the Western Hemisphere ever since including creating safe havens in Venezuela, opening the doors to Nicaragua by brokering an arrangement that includes a mega-Iran Embassy in Managua, and allowing all sorts of other undesirables to enter the region by initiating visa-free travel between Tehran and Caracas, soon to be added, Managua (i.e., what WHPW Editors dub the terrorist superhighway).

So, if this new chatter mentions both Venezuela and Cuba, it would not surprise any serious observer of this matter.
