Chávez regards cooperation with Iran as a "sacred task"
Caracas and Tehran criticized imperialism and strengthened ties

Published in: ElUniversal.com - October 20, 2010

Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez started on Tuesday his visit to Tehran with a "good morning, brother"and a big hug to his Iranian counterpart, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The goal of his visit is to enhance bilateral ties that are considered a strategic issue by the two countries and strengthen the "anti-imperialist axis." A smiling, affable Iranian Head of State greeted Chávez at the presidential palace.

The two presidents showed their shared aversion to western countries and reiterated their discourse against imperialism and capitalism, and particularly against the "harassing" policy implemented by the United States.

"The relations between Iran and Venezuela are truly fraternal and strong (...) It is almost a sacred duty to expand our relationship," Chávez said.
