Spanish police disrupts arms and helicopters sale towards Iran and Venezuela

Published in: m24digital.com - June 10, 2011

The Spanish police thwarted the sale of nine helicopter gunships to Iran and war material to Venezuela in an operation in which the vendors, five Spanish businessmen and three Iranians who traveled to Spain to finalize purchase, were arrested.

According to the Directorate General of Police and Civil Guard, “those arrested also had planned to sell spare parts of fighter aircrafts to Venezuela.”

“In the operation called ‘Nam’, we seized nine Bell-112 helicopters, spare parts and various military equipment, all valued at about $ 140 million.”

Also stated that “Both helicopters as replacement material were hidden in warehouses located in the towns of Navas del Rey (Madrid), Sabadell and Terrassa (Barcelona).”

The operation is still open, as reported by agents of the General Information Office.
