Relatives of political prisoners held in the National Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin) and in the prison center of Ramo Verde urged President Hugo Chávez to ensure compliance with human rights of the population deprived of liberty, some of whom are seriously ill.
At a press conference, Yajaira de Forero, the wife of former police chief Lázaro Forero, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the events of April 11, 2002, recalled the words of President Hugo Chávez when he said that the Venezuelan government cannot let the rights of Venezuelans be violated. Chávez was referring to the rights of Venezuelan terrorist Carlos the Jackal, who is arrested in France.
"The human rights of any person can not be infringed. We would like to remind you that the rights of a group of Venezuelan citizens who are political prisoners of this government have been systematically violated... You (Chávez) have advocated the rights of Carlos the Jackal and we expect that the government responds to our humanitarian request," Forero stated.
